Book: Walking the Camino: Auf dem Jakobsweg von Winterberg nach Santiago. This book is a fascinating journal of the pilgrimage made by Annette and Robin La Barre from their home in Winterberg to Santiago de Compostela (Saint James of Compostela), the shrine of the Apostle St. James. The principal places on the route in France towards the Pyrenees were Les Sétoux, Le Puy, Conques, Nasbinals, St-Côme-d'Olt, Figeac, Cahors, Lauzerte, Moissac, Lectoure, Condom, Nogaro, Pimbo, Arzaq, Navarrenx, Uhart Mixe, Ostabat, St-Jean-le-Vieux and St-Jean-Pied-de-Port. After crossing the Pyrenees, the camino to Santiago took the two hikers through Roncesvalles / Roncevaux, Pamplona, Logroño, Sierra del Perdón, Eunate, Obanos, Puente la Reina, Estrella, Irache, Viana, Navarrete, Nájera, Santo Domingo de la Calzada, San Juan de Ortega, Gamonal, Burgos, Tosantos, Hontanas, Castrojeriz, Itero de la Vega, Frómista, Carrión de los Condes, Sahagún, Mansilla de la Mula, León, Arcahueja, Hospital de Órbigo, Astorga, Rabanal del Camino, Cruz de Ferro, Molinaseca, Ponferrada, Cacabelos, Villafranca del Bierzo, O Cebreiro, Fonfría, Triacastela, Sarria, Barbadelo, Portomarín, San Nicolas, Palas del Rey, Melide, Pregonono, Lavacolla and Fonseca. Robin and Annette Labarre received mention in the pilgrims’ mass in the cathedral of Santiago as being ‘two pilgrims who had travelled by foot from Zurich to Santiago’. The book is bilingual; the two pilgrims relate their adventures on their pilgrimage by foot on the Camino from Switzerland to Santiago, each in their mother tongue, German and English. Walking the 2’250 km from Winterberg to Santiago de Compostela took them 84 days and throughout they kept a daily blog of their progress.
